Unlocking the camera function on your Purah Pad is one of the most useful steps you can take early in The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom. Having access to the camera allows players to document wildlife, weapons, and monsters while filling out the Hyrule Compendium. Additionally, taking photographs is required to complete multiple side quests throughout the game.
Starting the Camera Work in the Depths Quest
To acquire the camera ability, you must first progress far enough in the main story to obtain the Paraglider from Purah at Lookout Landing. Once you have the Paraglider, speak with Josha and Robbie located near the research area in Lookout Landing. They will assign you the quest titled Camera Work in the Depths, sending you on an expedition into the dark subterranean realm.
Before diving into the unknown, ensure that you prepare adequate supplies for navigating the darkness below. Stocking up on Brightbloom Seeds and arrows will make illuminating your path much easier.
Navigating the Depths to Find Robbie
Head directly south of Lookout Landing to locate the Hyrule Field Chasm. Jump into the glowing pit and deploy your Paraglider before reaching the ground to land safely. Once inside the Depths, speak with the nearby survey team member who points toward the first Lightroot.
Activate the Nisoij Lightroot to illuminate the immediate area and heal any gloom damage. From there, head west toward the next Lightroot by following the campfire markers left along the path. You will eventually spot Robbie waiting near the Iayusus Lightroot next to a mysterious stone statue.
Unlocking the Camera and Capturing Photos
Speaking with Robbie at the Iayusus Lightroot will prompt him to fix and activate the camera app on your Purah Pad. He will then instruct you to test the new feature by taking a picture of the nearby statue. Frame the statue properly until an exclamation mark appears, confirming that the photograph satisfies the objective.
After taking the picture, report back to Robbie to finish the initial tutorial phase. Fast travel back to Lookout Landing and show the photograph to Josha to complete the quest and claim your reward.
Utilizing the Camera Ability Efficiently
With the camera fully functional, you can quickly access it by opening the wheel menu with the L button and selecting the camera icon. Taking pictures registers new entries in your Hyrule Compendium automatically, helping you track resources across Hyrule. Players can also use selfie mode to customize fun photo compositions during their journey.
Keep in mind that taking clear pictures of monsters and materials unlocks tracking capabilities later in the game. Utilizing this tool regularly simplifies gathering rare crafting ingredients and completing village requests.
